Constructing the East Coast Championship

This weekend, Richmond will host the SuperFit Games East Coast Championship at the downtown Convention Center. February 7-8, the forty top-placing athletes in events throughout the season will be competing in the “pro-division” for prize money and bragging rights, along with almost 500 Rx and Novice competitors. This is the biggest event of the 2014-2015 SuperFit season and the last before the CrossFit Games season begins with the Open kickoff on February 26th. South of Belmar has been thrilled to be able to design and implement the branding for the SuperFit ECC.  So what goes into branding a major event like this? Here’s a behind-the-scenes look.

Months prior to the Championship, we worked with event coordinators to create an event logo that was then used across websites, banners, posters and flyers.

Instagram graphics for pro-division announcements and sponsorship graphics were created and shared.

Hundreds of feet in banners were printed for the ECC. This year we are excited to provide each pro-division athlete with a personalized 1ft x 4ft banner.

Although the groundwork has been laid, our involvement will continue throughout the day of the event. This includes helping with set up and assisting with the art direction of the space layout. We will also be part of the media team, talking with athletes, sponsors and spectators. Our team, along with two photographers and a videographer, will be instagramming the event and updating other social media outlets as well.  And finally, we’ll be creating live graphics updates on the fly.

We’ve had a blast working with this event and we’re looking forward to seeing it all come together in just a few days! It’s an excellent example of how branding isn’t just a logo, it’s not even just a website or a t-shirt. Good branding has the ability to span recognizable visual design, enviable collateral  and even a physical space that all speak your message loud and clear.
